Crematorium
Salisbury Crematorium was opened in 1960 on the North East outskirts of the city.
It occupies a site of approximately 3 hectares, with the grounds laid out in a mixture of formal and informal landscaping. The beautiful mature trees, herbaceous planting, rose beds and shrubberies give an air of peace and tranquillity to the surroundings and are a haven for quiet contemplation and remembrance.
Salisbury is also the proud owner of two “Champion Trees” one of which, a St Lucie Cherry (Prunus mahaleb) is in the grounds of the Crematorium in the corner of the car park area. A Champion Tree is the tallest, oldest or largest example of its kind known in a given region. The most spreading tree or one with an impressively thick trunk can also be registered as a champion tree.
The Chapel has seating for approximately 100 people and is dedicated for services of all religions or creed. However, if a religious service is not required, it is possible to just sit quietly for a while, or have a family member or friend say a few words.
The crematorium has a resident organist who will play any kind of music to suit requirements of the family or, alternatively, a CD can be played. Services are allocated a 45 minute time period, which is designed to allow 25 minutes for the service and 20 minutes to enable the family and friends to meet and view any floral tributes afterwards. It is possible, if required, to book a double time slot; this is particularly useful and indeed advised, if you are expecting a very large number of attendees.
The Chapel can also be used for burial services being conducted in the adjoining London Road Cemetery.
Various memorials available as a lasting tribute, these include the Book of Remembrance, Wall Plaques or Memorial Tablets, Memorial Vases or tree, rose and bulb planting. Vases can also be provided for people wishing to bring flowers in memory of a loved one.
The Crematorium staff are more than happy to accommodate any reasonable request which you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact us with your thoughts and ideas.
Once a date and time has been booked, all the legalities and funeral arrangements will be managed by the Crematorium staff and your appointed funeral director.
